CHILDREN'S DAY

Children's Day is one of the Japanese holidays.

 こどもの日は日本の祝日の一つです。

 

It is also called "Tango Festival."

 この日はまた「端午の節句」とも呼ばれています。

 

This is celebrated on May 5th.

 五月五日に祝われます。

 

We celebrate children's happiness, their health and growth.

 子どもたちの幸せ、健康、成長を願います。

 

There are various events on this day.

 この日には色々な行事があります。

 

Helmets called "Kabuto" or samurai dolls called "Gogatsuningyo"

 「兜」や「五月人形」が各家庭で飾られます。

 

are displayed  at home.

 

They are believed to be symbols of strength and vitality.

 それらは強さ、生命力の印と信じられています。

 

Also the carp-shaped streamers called "Koinobori" are raised.

「鯉のぼり」と呼ばれる鯉の形をした吹き流しが揚げられます。

 

They are symbols of success and prosperity.

成功と反映のシンボルです。

 

Children eat "Kashiwamochi"  and

 こどもたちは「柏餅」や

 

"Chimaki" made from sticky rice.

もち米で作られた「ちまき」を食べます。

 Both of them mean prosperity for the descendants of the family

 それらは子孫繁栄や

 

and also serve as a protective charm.

 厄除けの意味があります。
